<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
    android:id="@+id/container"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    tools:context="com.ram.navigatingupwiththeappicon.MainActivity"
    tools:ignore="MergeRootFrame" >

    <Button
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
        android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
        android:layout_marginTop="108dp"
        android:onClick="openAnotherActivity"
        android:text="Open AnotherActivity" />

</RelativeLayout>

anotheractivity.xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    android:orientation="vertical" >

    <TextView
        android:id="@+id/textView1"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:text="This is Another Activity"
        android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceLarge" />

</LinearLayout>

        startActivity(new Intent(getApplicationContext(), AnotherActivity.class));
    }
}

AnotherActivity.java:
 package com.ram.navigatingupwiththeappicon;

import android.app.Activity;
import android.os.Bundle;

public class AnotherActivity extends Activity {
